A naturally sweet, gently tart purée for babies and toddlers. Serve it on its own or swirl it into yogurt or oatmeal.
Ingredients
- 2 ripe pears
- 5–6 pitted dried prunes
- About ½ cup water
- Tiny pinch of cinnamon (optional)
Method
- Peel and core the pears, then cut them into chunks.
- Put the pears, prunes, and water in a small saucepan.
- Cover and simmer gently for 8–12 minutes, until everything is very soft.
- Blend, adding the cooking liquid gradually until the purée reaches your baby's preferred consistency. For an older baby or toddler, leave it slightly chunky if desired.
Yield
About 1½ cups.
Serving and storage
For constipation, start with 2–3 tablespoons; a large serving of prunes may cause loose stools.
Refrigerate for up to 3 days or freeze in small portions.
